Grab the nearest book (or website) to you right now. Jump to paragraph 3, second sentence. Write it in a post.
Well, the nearest book to me right now is my scrapbook. But as that doesn’t have paragraphs in it really I have gone for the next book on the shelf. Which is…The Complete Illustrated Works of Lewis Carrol.
The first page of prose (I ignored a few poems at the start), 3rd paragraph, 2nd sentence reads…
“Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!”
Oh my ears and whiskers!! It’s the white rabbit!!
I often have wondered whether somone bought me this because I loved Alice, or whether I started loving Alice because of this book. Not that I would sit and thumb the pages at the grand old age of 19 months (it’s rather weighty…and I often had sticky fingers!). Maybe I should ask mum next time I speak to her, tretch her grey matter back 22 years or so.
So, what do you think, does the books a person has near them say anything about them? What would your sentence have been?
(p.s. Thanks so much for all the comments yesterday, they really made me smile!)
